1. Education
- Chapter members have access to our local AAP-Sponsored CME and Educational programs at a discounted rate or free of charge.
- Chapter members receive our bi-weekly newsletter, Coastal Currents, which has information on educational programs and issues that are important for pediatricians in San Diego
- With assistance, chapter members can help organize and influence educational programs that can be of benefit to other pediatricians.
- Chapter membership can provide an opportunity to be involved in educational and teaching programs through Children’s Hospital, UCSD Medical Center, and the County of San Diego.
2. Advocacy
- The local Chapter is an advocate for pediatricians and children’s issues for San Diego. Your membership allows your voice to be heard and your expert opinion to be incorporated into decisions and policy, from immunizations to reimbursement, from access to care to child safety.
- Membership in the local chapter can increase your awareness and understanding of important legislation impacting kids and pediatricians in California and nationally.
- Participation in chapter meetings, chapter committees is the start to being involved in forging of policy on the state and national level. You are our greatest resource.

3. Fellowship
- The American Academy of Pediatrics represents over 50,000 pediatricians nationally. However, at the chapter level is where the connection begins.
- Share ideas, frustrations, interests and concerns with fellow pediatricians, who have local interests and local experiences.
- The San Diego Chapter (California Chapter 3) is proud to have representation from all of the many diverse groups of pediatricians in our area --- from private practice to community clinics, from university centers to Children’s Hospital, from large managed-care groups to individual clinicians, from Lakeside to Oceanside. There is a professional “home” for you in the San Diego Chapter.
