AAP-CA3 2013 Pediatrician of the Year Award
Richard P. Walls, MD, PhD, FAAP
Dr. Walls is the recipient of the AAP- CA Chapter 3’s Pediatrician of the Year award for 2013. A long time chapter member, Richard Walls, MD, passed away last September. He was a champion for children in San Diego and consummate pediatrician, mentor and friend to many.
When he began his private practice in La Jolla over 30 years ago, he became heavily involved in the American Academy of Pediatrics, serving in various roles including president of the local chapter from 1994 to 1997. He served as chief of staff of Rady’s Children’s Hospital from 2000-2001 and was a pioneer in complementary and alternative medicine for children, serving on the National AAP Task Force on Complementary and Alternative Medicine from 2000 to 2001. He was also a member of the National AAP Section on Pharmacology and Therapeutics since 1999. He was also a longtime member on the course planning Committee for this meeting, Advances in the Practice of Pediatrics.
Dr. Walls played an integral role in the care and upbringing of children and subsequently their children for 31 years. He will be deeply missed.
